Three Nations Player of the Match: Celebrating Our Standout Performers

2 min read

Three Nations brought plenty of big moments for our Philippines Rugby League teams - tough carries, strong tackles, hard work in defence and players stepping up when their team needed them.

Across four matches, our coaching staff selected players who stood out through their performance, attitude and effort on game day.

Thanks to The Barkada Project, each recognised player also received Filipino-inspired merch to celebrate the performance and the heritage they proudly carried onto the field.

U18 Women: Philippines vs Māori

For our U18 Women’s match against Māori, Coach Isaac Rosario and Coach Nik Forrest selected Alana Philips #11 and Sienna Barotillo #9 as Players of the Match.

It was a proud moment for two young players representing the Philippines and showing what our growing women’s pathway is capable of.

Every game is another opportunity to build confidence, test yourself against quality opposition and grow as a rugby league player. Congratulations, Alana and Sienna — keep backing yourselves and putting in the work.

U16 Men: Philippines vs Italy

Against Italy, Coach Dylan Jones and Coach Beau Jones named Shawn McGhee #8 as Player of the Match, with Sonny Tandang #6 receiving the Coaches Award.

For our U16s, these games are about learning what it takes to compete, represent your team and keep showing up for the players beside you.

Shawn and Sonny earned recognition from their coaches on the day. Take that confidence back into training, keep listening, keep learning and keep pushing for the next opportunity.

U18 Men: Philippines vs Italy

Our U18 Men also took on Italy, with Coach Pat Page selecting Leijin Mikasa #18 for Coaches Award and Leki Page #13 as Player of the Match.

Both players made their mark on game day and earned the recognition of their coach for the effort they brought to the field.

For this group, every match is another step in their development. Performances like these are something to be proud of, but they’re also something to build on. Keep putting in the work and challenging yourselves to get better each time you pull on the jersey.

Admirals Men’s Open: Philippines vs Italy

At Mens Open level, Coach Ryan Picard recognised Russel Nelson #8 and Ricky Kucia #12 as Players of the Match in the Admirals’ clash with Italy.

Representing the Philippines at senior level carries plenty of pride. Russel and Ricky stepped up for the Admirals and showed the effort, experience and commitment expected when wearing the Philippines jersey.

Congratulations on earning the recognition. Keep setting the standard for the players coming through our pathway.

Proudly Sponsored by The Barkada Project

Each recognised player received merchandise from The Barkada Project, including sportswear caps featuring the Filipino flag, Filipino sun and Filipino tribal-inspired designs.

It was a fitting way to recognise players who were competing in rugby league while proudly carrying their Filipino heritage onto the field.

A massive congratulations to Alana, Sienna, Shawn, Sonny, Leijin, Leki, Russel and Ricky.

Be proud of the performance you put out there on game day. Enjoy the recognition, then get back into the grind. Keep training, keep learning and keep pushing yourselves to improve and develop in rugby league.

We’re proud to have you representing the Philippines. 🇵🇭🏉
